Youth: Citizens in Action

The British Embassy is delighted to be supporting youth initiatives being implemented by the Jordan River Foundation in Zarqa. Our support will help to establish two new youth centres in Beerin and Hasimiya and will provide opportunity and inspiration to the current generation growing up in these under-privileged areas.

Our support reflects our belief in the importance of involving local communities in development initiatives. That is why we have also supported, for example the establishment of a similar youth centre in Al Tayibeh and a community radio station in Ma’an.

The British Ambassador, James Watt and JRF's Director General, Valentina Qussisiya signed a funding agreement for the project on 17 June 2009 amounting to £46,000.
